I’m Danielle Schury, a wedding and editorial photographer based in Bourbonnais, Illinois. I spend a good part of the year photographing weddings, restaurants, and editorial projects across Arizona and Florida. Destination work makes up much of what I do, and Arizona’s Verde Valley has become something of a second home base.
That’s how I found myself at Queen B Sushi in Old Town Cottonwood. When Maynard and Jennifer Keenan opened their sushi room, I had the opportunity to photograph the chefs in action and capture the food coming across the counter.
The kitchen is led by Brett Vibber, who spent nine years with Roka Akor before making his way to Cottonwood. He works alongside chefs Chihiro “Thomas” Kato and Sheridan “Sher” Chase, each bringing their own focus and skill to the experience.
Watching the counter work is the closest thing I’ve seen to a wedding day outside of one. Everything is precise, everything is happening at once, and everyone has a role. From the chefs’ movements to the final presentation of each dish, there was always something worth photographing.

This session was about more than photographing finished plates. I wanted to document the full story of Queen B Sushi: the chefs, the teamwork, the preparation, and the details that shape the dining experience.
Photographing chefs while they work requires the same approach I bring to wedding photography. I watch for unscripted moments, anticipate movement, and document the details without interrupting the natural rhythm of the room. At Queen B Sushi, that meant capturing hands at work, ingredients being prepared, dishes taking shape, and the concentration behind every plate.
The result is a collection of food and editorial photographs that reflects both the precision of the kitchen and the personality of the people behind it.
